Two Chances to Join Our Team

Vacancies at Junior Chefs' Academy

Things at Junior Chefs' Academy are getting increasingly busy so we're now looking for two people to join our happy team. The two roles are essentially the same, but one is full time and the other is term time only.

Vacancy: Children's Workshop Assistant(s)
Based: Wirral.

As the UK's leading provider of food skills workshops for  young children, we’re dynamic, hard-working and passionate about nutrition. Now, thanks to our continuing growth, we need a workshop assistant who possesses exactly those same qualities. We need a bright, energetic personality who can help us deliver our sessions not only in Wirral and Merseyside but at venues right across the country.

The role is varied and entails working with us on location, either in schools or community centres. (We tend to work mainly with schools in term times and with community centres during the school holidays.)

Key tasks include:

  • Helping to set up the room and displays
  • Preparing tables and ingredients
  • Organising trays, equipment and personalised chefs' hats
  • Talking to teaching / kitchen staff
  • Helping children to put on aprons
  • Helping children prepare their dishes - reinforcing the chef's instructions
  • Cleaning the trays and utensils after use
  • Helping to pack away afterwards

It's important to note that because we work to school hours and in so many different locations, early starts are all part of the role; we'll sometimes be leaving Wirral at around 6.00am. This is by no means a standard 'nine to five' job so it would suit someone with drive and flexibility. The great majority of visits are completed in just a day but there occasions (such as sessions sponsored by Tesco) when we may visit a school for two days at a time, so overnight stays will sometimes be required.

We're looking for someone who's comfortable with basic food preparation skills and who has a clear understanding of food hygiene. Good numeracy and organisational skills are also essential. Most importantly, of all, we need someone who's friendly, communicative and enthusiastic about promoting healthy eating.

In return for all this, we can promise a fun working day, constant variety and the chance to be part of a friendly and very successful team. Both roles will be paid at a rate of £6.70 an hour.
